Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before using DocChat Scanner. Because we are a local-first application, our terms are a bit different than standard cloud apps.

01. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the DocChat Scanner application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the App.

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Continued use of the App following any changes indicates your acceptance of the new terms.

02. Local-First Architecture

DocChat is distinct from other scanning applications because it is designed with a "Local-First" architecture.

  • Data Storage: All documents, scans, and metadata are stored exclusively on your device's local storage sandbox. We do not host your files on our servers.
  • Processing: While your files are stored locally on your device, AI Chat analysis is performed off-device using Large Language Models (LLMs). Documents are sent for processing via encryption and without any user identification details to ensure your privacy.
  • Backup & Data Loss: Because we do not store your data in the cloud, you are solely responsible for backing up your device. If you uninstall the app or switch devices, all your data will be permanently lost. We recommend backing up your device regularly (e.g., via iCloud Drive or local backup) to prevent data loss.

03. Use License

Permission is granted to download one copy of the App for personal, non-commercial transitory viewing only. This is the grant of a license, not a transfer of title. Under this license, you may not:

Prohibited Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the App.
Prohibited Use the App for any illegal purpose or to scan documents containing illegal content.

04. Subscriptions & Billing

DocChat offers "Pro" features via in-app purchases.

  • Payment: Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at the confirmation of purchase.
  • Renewal: Subscription automatically renews unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Cancellation: You can manage and cancel your subscriptions by going to your App Store account settings. If you cancel your subscription, all your existing data will remain on your device. You will retain access to your stored documents, but you will not be able to add new data at the higher rates provided by the Pro subscription tier.
  • Refunds: Refunds are handled exclusively by Apple according to their refund policies. We cannot issue refunds directly.

05. AI Functionality

The App uses Large Language Models (LLMs) to summarize documents and answer questions. Documents are sent off-device for processing via encryption and without any user identification details.

We are not liable for any errors, omissions, or misinterpretations generated by the AI assistant.

06. Disclaimers

The App is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. DocChat makes no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the reliability or availability of the App.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, DocChat shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses.
